Springfield, Ill. – Afternoon highs in the low to mid-80s will continue across Illinois through Saturday, keeping conditions seasonably warm before a major shift in the weather pattern arrives by Sunday. Overnight lows will dip into the 60s, offering mild evenings before the cooler air sets in.
According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, a weak disturbance could trigger isolated storms late Saturday with about a 20 percent chance of rain, especially west of Springfield. The bigger story, forecasters say, will be the sharp cool down that follows. By Sunday, highs are expected to top out in the mid-70s with much lower humidity.
The change will be noticeable for outdoor plans. Farmers’ markets, youth sports, and community events on Saturday will feel more summerlike, while Sunday will bring a crisp, fall preview. Travelers along I-55 and I-72 should prepare for reduced visibility if storms develop Saturday evening.
Meteorologists expect the cooler, drier pattern to linger into next week, offering several days of below-normal temperatures and more comfortable nights.
