According to the US National Weather Service Central Illinois, temperatures today will reach the lower to mid-80s, climbing to the upper 80s on Friday. The most significant heat will arrive Saturday, with highs ranging from 91 to 94 degrees. Sunday and Monday will see temperatures between 92 and 95 degrees, accompanied by oppressive humidity. Overnight lows will remain warm, only dropping into the lower to mid-70s.

Cities like Springfield, Peoria, and Champaign will experience these extreme conditions. Residents should take precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses, especially during outdoor activities. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, limit time outdoors during the hottest parts of the day, and check on vulnerable neighbors and pets.
