Spring storms are set to sweep through Central Illinois, bringing multiple rounds of thunderstorms and heavy rainfall through the weekend. According to the National Weather Service, the unsettled weather will particularly affect areas along the I-70 corridor.
Tonight, the region can expect cloudy skies with a 50-70% chance of thunderstorms, with the highest likelihood of rain in southern Illinois. Temperatures will range from 44°F to 50°F, and winds will be light from the northeast.
Friday will bring more intense storms, with some strong cells moving through, especially in the southern parts of the state. Temperatures will warm to a range of 57°F to 66°F, and thunderstorms will be widespread, with a 90% chance of rain.
Heavy rain continues into Saturday, with a similar 90% chance of thunderstorms. Daytime highs will range from 54°F to 64°F.
By Sunday, conditions will improve, though there’s still a 30% chance of morning rain. Temperatures will range between 46°F and 52°F.
Residents are advised to stay alert to weather updates and be prepared for potential flooding, particularly in areas where heavy rain is expected.
