Lincoln, IL – Severe thunderstorms are expected across central Illinois today, primarily south of a Taylorville to Danville line. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Lincoln issued an alert for scattered storms, which could bring damaging wind gusts and heavy rainfall. Cooler and drier air is forecasted to follow, offering relief for the latter half of the week.

According to the NWS, the storms are anticipated to develop this afternoon and evening, peaking between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. The highest risk for severe weather includes gusts up to 60 mph and high rainfall rates. Residents are advised to stay weather-aware and seek indoor shelter during severe conditions.

Tonight’s temperatures will range from 65-72°F, with storms mainly south of I-70. Wednesday will see highs between 81-84°F and a 30% chance of storms continuing south of I-70. By Thursday, temperatures will drop to 76-80°F with mostly clear skies, setting up a pleasant end to the week. Friday’s forecast predicts highs of 79-82°F, maintaining clear and sunny conditions.
