Springfield, IL – A windy Tuesday kicks off the week across Central Illinois, but conditions will turn seasonally mild and dry through midweek before thunderstorms roll in by Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service Central Illinois, Tuesday brings gusty winds between 30–40 mph with highs in the mid to upper 50s. Despite the wind, skies will remain mostly dry. Lows will dip into the 30s overnight, potentially bringing frost to some areas.

By Wednesday, residents across Springfield, Decatur, and Bloomington can expect sunny skies and milder temperatures reaching the low 60s. Conditions remain favorable through Wednesday night with lows in the 40s.

The weather pattern begins to shift Thursday afternoon with increasing chances for rain and isolated thunderstorms, especially overnight into Friday. Friday’s highs may surge into the upper 70s and low 80s, followed by another round of storms Friday night, which could produce heavier rainfall and gusty winds.

Storm chances persist into Saturday with cooler daytime highs in the 60s. Residents are encouraged to monitor weather updates, secure outdoor items today, and prepare for potential travel disruptions later in the week.

Stay alert for localized flooding and lightning risk as the weekend approaches.
