Champaign, IL – A quick round of showers and thunderstorms is moving through central Illinois this morning, but sunshine is set to take over by midweek. The National Weather Service in Lincoln reports that after a few light storms Tuesday morning, the region will see cooler, dry air sweeping in from the north by Thursday, October 9.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures will drop from near 80°F Tuesday to the upper 60s by Thursday and Friday. Gusty northwest winds up to 15 mph will help push the brief system east along I-74, clearing skies for much of the state. Residents planning morning commutes or outdoor errands today should remain alert for slick spots and brief lightning.

By Wednesday, conditions turn crisp and clear—perfect for yard work, early Halloween decorating, and local pumpkin patch visits. Thursday through Sunday will feature classic fall weather: sunny days, cool nights, and highs in the upper 60s to low 70s. Lows may dip into the upper 40s, hinting at the first light frost risk by late Sunday.

Looking ahead, Columbus Day (Monday, October 13) is expected to bring more sunshine and mild highs near 81°F—ideal for travel or outdoor celebrations.
