Springfield, Ill. – Central Illinois will see a warm finish to the workweek before much cooler air settles in by Sunday, offering residents a comfortable stretch for outdoor plans. Highs in the 80s will give way to 70s, with only a small chance of storms this weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, Friday’s highs will push into the mid-80s with overnight lows in the 60s. Saturday brings another day in the low to mid-80s, though a 20 percent chance of afternoon thunderstorms could briefly interrupt outdoor activities.

By Sunday, temperatures drop sharply, with highs topping out near 72 degrees and lows falling into the 50s. Winds will shift north, ushering in much cooler, drier air. Monday continues the trend, with highs only around 70 and morning lows in the upper 40s.

Travel across the region should remain smooth with little storm activity, though residents planning Saturday events should monitor radar for pop-up showers. Outdoor festivals, farmers markets, and evening activities look favorable for both Sunday and Monday as the cooler air takes hold.

The weather service says the cooler pattern will persist into next week, keeping conditions pleasant and fall-like for Central Illinois.
