Springfield, Ill. – Central Illinois will see storm chances steadily spread eastward early this week, bringing the greatest rain threat on Tuesday. While the highest storm activity through Monday remains concentrated west of I-55, the National Weather Service warns that a stray shower or thunderstorm could develop Monday in eastern Illinois.

According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, muggy conditions will persist despite a gradual easing of daytime temperatures by midweek. Highs Monday and Tuesday will range from the mid-80s to low 90s, with nighttime lows in the upper 60s to low 70s. The most widespread and intense rainfall is expected Tuesday, with several cities including Springfield, Bloomington, and Champaign seeing rain chances above 60 percent during the day.

Drivers should be alert for brief downpours and gusty winds during storms, especially along the I-55 corridor. Outdoor plans early this week may need backup options, and residents are urged to keep weather alerts active on mobile devices.

Storm chances will taper slightly after Wednesday, though scattered showers remain possible later in the week.
