Springfield, Ill. – Cooler-than-normal conditions will linger across Illinois through Monday before a sharp warmup sends highs back into the upper 80s and near 90 by midweek.

According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, temperatures today will stay in the low to mid-70s with morning lows dropping into the 40s, making for an unusually crisp September morning across much of the state. Monday holds steady in the mid-70s before a pronounced warming trend begins Tuesday, pushing highs into the 80s and lows into the upper 50s.

Springfield, Peoria, and Bloomington can expect the warmest stretch of the week from Wednesday through Thursday, with afternoon highs between 85 and 90 degrees. The weather pattern remains dry, with only minimal rain chances under 10 percent midweek, keeping fields and lawns on the drier side.

Travel and outdoor plans should face little disruption, though residents are advised to stay hydrated and prepare for summer-like conditions returning quickly after the weekend chill.
