Springfield, Ill. – Cooler air and brief dry skies will dominate Central Illinois through Saturday, but residents should prepare for scattered showers starting Sunday night and continuing into Memorial Day.
According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, a passing weather system to the southwest will bring increasing rain chances, especially for the southern half of the state late Saturday into Monday. Areas like Effingham, Taylorville, and Charleston could see a 40% chance of rain Sunday night, rising to 30% on Monday.
Most of the region will stay dry through Friday and Saturday with highs hovering around 70°F. Overnight lows will drop into the low-to-mid 40s Thursday and Friday. Cloud cover increases late Saturday, with chances for light rain developing by Sunday evening.
While no major storm systems are expected, travelers and event organizers should monitor local forecasts. Rain may affect outdoor Memorial Day plans, especially south of I-72. Keep umbrellas handy and consider flexible scheduling for barbecues or parades.
Scattered showers may linger into early Monday afternoon, with cooler-than-average highs in the upper 60s. Additional advisories could be issued if rainfall coverage expands.
