Champaign, IL – Locally heavy rain and cloud-to-ground lightning could hit areas along I-55 and I-70 Monday night into Tuesday, with scattered thunderstorms expected across central and southeast Illinois by early evening Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, isolated to scattered storms will develop through Tuesday, with the heaviest rain and lightning risks expected from mid-afternoon onward. While the overall severe threat remains low, localized downpours and ground strikes could create hazardous conditions, especially southeast of Springfield and through the I-70 corridor.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny skies return with highs in the mid-80s. Overnight lows dip into the mid-60s.

Thursday–Friday: Sunny and hot. Highs rise to 89°F by Friday with calm overnight conditions.
