Champaign, IL – Central Illinois is preparing for severe weather today as a slow-moving cold front moves southward, potentially bringing heavy rain and damaging winds. The National Weather Service (NWS) warns that scattered storms this afternoon and evening may be strong to severe, posing significant risks to the region.
According to the NWS, storms are expected to develop from 2 PM to midnight, with wind gusts potentially reaching over 60 mph and isolated large hail. Locally heavy rainfall could also lead to urban and street flooding in some areas.
Thursday’s weather will clear, with temperatures ranging from 80-88 degrees under mostly sunny skies. The calm conditions will continue into Friday and Saturday, with temperatures remaining in the low to mid-80s. However, the chance of precipitation will return on Sunday with possible thunderstorms and temperatures peaking between 84-90 degrees.
