Lincoln, IL – Central Illinois will enjoy several mild, mostly dry days before an autumn storm system arrives late Friday, according to the National Weather Service in Lincoln.

Forecasters expect highs in the mid to upper 70s through Thursday, with mostly cloudy skies and only a small chance of isolated showers north of Interstate 74 overnight Tuesday into Wednesday.

By Friday evening, however, a developing storm system will push into the region, bringing a 60–70% chance of rain and thunderstorms that may linger into Saturday morning. Temperatures will remain warm ahead of the front, reaching near 80°F Friday, before dropping sharply over the weekend.

Saturday’s highs will settle in the low 70s, and by Sunday, much cooler air will arrive — with daytime temperatures in the low to mid-60s and morning lows dipping into the 40s with widespread frost.

The NWS advises residents to monitor local forecasts as the late-week system could bring brief heavy rain and gusty winds before a cooler, calmer stretch returns early next week.
