Springfield, Illinois – Dangerously high heat and humidity will grip central Illinois through Friday, with heat indices soaring as high as 105 degrees and a risk of scattered evening storms.

According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, a Heat Advisory remains in effect across the region, with highs in the low to mid-90s and oppressive humidity pushing “feels-like” temperatures above 100 degrees daily. The advisory extends through Thursday, but elevated heat may persist longer.

Cities including Springfield, Decatur, Peoria, and Bloomington will see daily highs between 90 and 96 degrees. Overnight lows won’t offer much relief, remaining in the mid-70s. Scattered thunderstorms are expected Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons, which could bring strong wind gusts, brief downpours, and isolated power outages.

Residents are urged to limit outdoor activity during peak heat hours, hydrate frequently, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Roads, power lines, and outdoor work crews are all at increased risk due to prolonged exposure.

This marks one of the hottest weeks of the summer so far in central Illinois. Additional advisories or warnings may follow if conditions worsen.
