Central Illinois – A cold front will bring a rollercoaster of weather conditions to Central Illinois this weekend. Residents should prepare for rain, snow, and frigid temperatures.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Central Illinois, temperatures will briefly warm into the mid-40s on Friday. Rain, with a 60% chance east of I-55, will begin late Friday evening. Rainfall amounts south of I-70 could range from 0.25 to 0.50 inches. By Saturday morning, as precipitation diminishes, a transition to light snow is possible.
Saturday will usher in much colder weather, with highs only reaching the low 20s and wind chills plummeting to 5-10 degrees. By Sunday, temperatures will drop even further, with highs between 8-14 degrees. Overnight lows on Sunday and Monday could sink as low as -10 degrees, with wind chills reaching a dangerous -15 to -20 degrees.
Forecasters are urging residents to dress warmly and avoid prolonged exposure to the cold. Travel may be impacted by icy conditions, especially as temperatures drop sharply on Saturday night. Bitter cold air is expected to linger into early next week.
Residents should stay updated on changing weather conditions and monitor forecasts from the NWS for the latest alerts. Preparations for freezing temperatures and potential light snow are strongly advised.
