Springfield, IL – Central Illinois is set to experience a mix of dangerous heat and severe storms throughout the week. Forecasters predict hot and humid conditions with afternoon heat indices ranging from 100 to 110 degrees on both Tuesday and Wednesday.

According to the US National Weather Service Central Illinois, storm chances are present throughout the week but are not expected to result in a complete washout. The highest likelihood of rain occurs today and Monday. Small-scale weather features from previous storms create uncertainty in pinpointing the exact timing and location of new storms. However, Monday afternoon and evening have the best chances for severe weather.

Tuesday and Wednesday will see the peak of the heat, while temperatures are expected to slightly drop towards the weekend. Despite a reduction in heat intensity, muggy conditions will persist.
