Champaign, IL – A winter storm moving into Illinois will bring freezing rain late Tuesday into Wednesday, creating hazardous conditions along the I-70 corridor. Drivers should prepare for icy roads, particularly in northern parts of Central Illinois.
According to the National Weather Service, rain will begin late Tuesday, with freezing rain developing by early Wednesday. Travel could be dangerous, with slick roads and potential ice accumulation. By Wednesday afternoon, temperatures will rise, transitioning freezing rain to heavy rain. Winds up to 17 mph may reduce visibility.
Thursday will be a brief reprieve, bringing partly sunny skies and highs near 46°F. However, another storm system arrives Friday night into Saturday, bringing more precipitation, with a chance of snow.
Residents should monitor weather updates and prepare for rapidly changing conditions. If traveling Wednesday morning, allow extra time and check road conditions before heading out.
