Illinois is starting the day with light snow drifting across central parts of the state, dusting fields and lightly coating roads from Lincoln to Champaign. Temperatures sit near 26°F, and that cold edge is enough to turn untreated surfaces slick fast.

The National Weather Service in Lincoln reports up to around one inch of snow possible, especially along and north of I-72. Roads may appear only wet, but thin ice can hide underneath, particularly on bridges and rural routes.

Drivers along I-55, I-57, and I-72 should move carefully through late morning. Visibility may briefly drop in passing snow bursts. Plan extra time and increase following distance during the commute.

Conditions begin improving by midday as snow tapers and temperatures climb toward 50°F. That warming will help melt remaining snow, but wet pavement becomes the next concern. As temperatures fall back later, leftover moisture could refreeze, creating patchy black ice into the evening.

Thursday brings a clear shift toward spring, with partly sunny skies and highs near 62°F. By Friday, temperatures rise further to around 71°F, signaling a strong seasonal transition for the first full day of spring.

Saturday continues the warming trend with highs near 72°F and mostly sunny skies. Sunday stays mild near 70°F before slightly cooler air filters in early next week.

Five Day Outlook for Champaign–Central Illinois:
Wednesday: Chance of snow early, then clearing, high 50°F
Thursday: Partly sunny, high 62°F
Friday: Partly sunny, high 71°F
Saturday: Mostly sunny, high 72°F
Sunday: Mostly sunny, high 70°F
