Lincoln, Illinois – Scattered thunderstorms will linger across southeast and east-central Illinois through Wednesday, bringing periods of heavy rain, rising temperatures, and a growing risk of severe weather by midweek.

According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, a weak but persistent system will continue to push slow-moving showers and storms across the region today, particularly south of I-72. Some storms may drop heavy rainfall in localized areas, with additional chances returning Monday through Wednesday. Severe thunderstorms are possible late Tuesday into Wednesday, with threats including strong winds and isolated flooding.

Temperatures will trend warmer each day, with highs near 80°F Saturday, climbing to the upper 80s and even low 90s in spots by Tuesday. Cities like Decatur, Charleston, and Effingham should prepare for muggy afternoons and the potential for evening storm activity. Partly cloudy skies on Sunday offer a brief break, but storm chances increase again Monday night.

Residents are urged to monitor forecasts and have a severe weather plan in place. Use caution when driving through heavy rain, and avoid low-lying roads that may flood quickly.

More storm warnings are possible as the next weather system arrives Tuesday night into Wednesday.
