Champaign, Illinois – A return of thunderstorm activity is possible across central Illinois Thursday afternoon, with the highest chance west of I-57 including parts of the Illinois River Valley. While severe storms are not expected, localized heavy rain and cloud-to-ground lightning could impact travel and outdoor plans.

According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, a slight chance of storms also lingers overnight Wednesday, especially near the river valley areas. Spotter activation isn’t anticipated, but lightning hazards and brief downpours remain a concern. Another round of thunderstorms is possible Sunday into Monday, though it’s too early to determine the severity.

Thursday: Mostly sunny early, turning partly cloudy with a chance of storms west of I-57 by afternoon.
Friday: Sunny and dry, high around 90°F.
Saturday: Continued sunshine and rising heat, highs near 91°F.
Sunday: Mostly sunny with storms developing late.
Monday: Chance of showers and thunderstorms, especially in the afternoon and evening.

Keep devices charged and monitor updated forecasts. Any storm development could lead to lightning delays or brief flooding. Additional advisories may be issued if Monday’s threat increases.
