Springfield, Illinois – Central Illinois is on track for a hot, stormy stretch as temperatures approach 90°F by Monday and Tuesday before thunderstorms roll in by Tuesday night.
According to the National Weather Service in Central Illinois, dry skies will dominate the weekend with only a slight 20% chance of a stray shower Saturday evening. Heat builds quickly to start the week, with Monday’s highs reaching 84–89°F and Tuesday peaking between 86–90°F. Thunderstorms are expected to enter western Illinois late Tuesday, becoming more widespread by Wednesday across central and southeast portions of the state.
Areas including Decatur, Champaign, Effingham, and Mattoon could see heavy rainfall and gusty winds by midweek. Commuters along I-72 and I-55 should plan for wet roads and potential delays Wednesday morning. Low temperatures will climb steadily, reaching the upper 60s by Tuesday night — another signal of the incoming moisture and instability.
Residents are urged to prepare for possible weather-related disruptions midweek: charge devices, secure outdoor items, and monitor local alerts. While the weekend remains mostly pleasant, eyes should turn to the sky by late Tuesday.
Storm chances increase significantly Wednesday. Additional advisories may follow as the system develops.
