Springfield, IL – Residents across Central Illinois should prepare for scattered showers and thunderstorms throughout much of the week, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Lincoln.
According to NWS forecasters, the greatest risk for storms today is south of Interstate 72, with a 60% chance of precipitation. Rain will primarily fall east of the Illinois River, with high temperatures reaching the upper 70s.
On Tuesday, morning fog will give way to scattered thunderstorms, with a 70% chance of showers and highs between 80 and 85 degrees. Wednesday brings another round of storms, again with a 70% chance of rain and highs in the lower 70s.
Thursday’s forecast shows scattered storms with a 40% chance of precipitation and cooler highs around 71 to 77 degrees. Conditions improve by Friday, with only a 20% chance of rain and temperatures climbing into the mid to upper 70s under partly sunny skies.
The NWS notes that while storms are expected each day through Thursday, there will still be periods of dry weather, and temperatures will remain near seasonal averages. Residents are advised to monitor forecasts for updated storm timing and impacts, especially for travel and outdoor activities.
