CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — The early dawn settles over the fields of east-central Illinois, a calm hush before the next weather shift. Low clouds blanket the horizon, filtering soft morning light over damp leaves and quiet streets. It’s the kind of still, mild air that marks a turning point — clear skies now, but rain building just beyond Monday’s calm.

Today stays mostly sunny and pleasant, with highs near 64°F and a steady east breeze at 10 to 15 mph. It’s an ideal day for outdoor cleanup or early Halloween decorating before the next system arrives. Tonight cools into the lower 40s with only scattered clouds.

Monday continues dry and mild, bringing another comfortable high around 63°F. By evening, clouds begin to thicken from the west as moisture surges toward central Illinois. Expect the first light showers late Monday night, mainly after midnight.

Tuesday turns wetter and breezier, with rain likely through the afternoon and early evening. Winds shift from the east to the southeast around 10–15 mph, with gusts near 20 mph. Showers linger into Wednesday, with totals between a quarter and half an inch possible. Temperatures drop to the mid-50s as the front passes.

By Thursday, skies clear again, offering a crisp and partly sunny stretch leading into Halloween. Trick-or-treaters can expect cool, dry conditions Friday evening — light jackets should be enough for candy runs around Champaign County.

To be fair, the pattern looks mild for now, but early November models hint at a chillier turn, with the season’s first frost not far behind.
