Springfield, Illinois – Drivers east of I-55 should prepare for scattered thunderstorms this afternoon as a low-pressure system moves through Central Illinois.

According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, rain and storms will develop Friday with a 50% chance of precipitation, especially from Bloomington to Champaign. Highs will reach the low 70s, with overnight lows dipping into the mid-40s.

While Saturday looks dry and mild with temperatures in the 60s, Sunday may bring isolated evening showers, particularly along I-72 between Jacksonville and Decatur. Conditions shift again Monday, with a warming trend into the low 80s and a 40% chance of afternoon thunderstorms.

By Tuesday, the threat of more widespread—and potentially severe—storms increases, with a 60% chance of storms forecast across the region. Areas like Peoria, Lincoln, and Danville may see heavy rainfall, strong winds, and possible hail late Monday into Tuesday night.

Residents are urged to monitor forecasts through the weekend, especially ahead of Monday night’s unsettled pattern. Charge mobile devices, review emergency plans, and stay weather-aware as conditions may prompt additional advisories.

⚠️ Storm chances and severe threat linger through Tuesday, with updates expected from the NWS over the weekend.
