Springfield, IL – Residents across central Illinois should prepare for scattered showers and thunderstorms throughout the weekend and much of the upcoming week, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Lincoln.

Forecasters report that a slow-moving upper low will bring daily chances of storms, though not all areas will see rain. Coverage is expected to range between 30 and 60 percent, meaning precipitation will be hit-or-miss across the region.

Saturday’s outlook calls for highs between 78 and 88 degrees with a 40% chance of rain. Storm chances increase on Sunday, with a 60% chance of showers and thunderstorms and highs around 79 to 85 degrees. Similar conditions are forecast for Monday and Tuesday, with rain probabilities near 50%. By Wednesday, rain chances drop slightly to 40%, with highs cooling into the mid-70s. Overnight lows for the period will remain steady in the low to mid-60s.

The NWS cautions that isolated to scattered showers and storms are possible each day. While widespread rainfall is unlikely, brief heavy downpours and lightning could affect outdoor plans.

Residents planning weekend travel or events are advised to keep an eye on updated forecasts and prepare for changing conditions.
