Springfield, IL – Central Illinois will see an increase in rain chances beginning Tuesday as a midweek storm system moves across the region, according to the National Weather Service in Lincoln.
While a few light showers are possible through Monday, the main round of rain is forecast to arrive Tuesday and continue into Wednesday night. Forecasters say rainfall totals of up to an inch or more are possible, especially south of I-74, where probabilities reach 50–60%. Areas farther north will see a lower chance near 40%.
Temperatures will remain seasonable for late October, with highs in the upper 50s to low 60s and lows in the 40s. Tuesday will bring increasing clouds and rain spreading west to east, followed by periods of steady rain Wednesday, particularly during the morning commute.
By Thursday, lingering showers should taper off from west to east, leaving partly sunny and dry conditions by Friday, just in time for Halloween weekend events.
The NWS notes that no severe weather is expected, but locally heavy rainfall may cause minor ponding on roads or low-lying areas. Drivers are advised to watch for slick conditions midweek.
