Springfield, IL – Thunderstorms are expected to sweep across Illinois starting early Thursday morning, with periods of intense weather likely to persist through Saturday. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Central Illinois has issued a forecast indicating that storms will develop after 3 a.m. on Thursday, affecting the region from west to east.
According to the NWS, these storms will bring risks of damaging wind gusts, frequent lightning, torrential rainfall, and localized hail. While Thursday morning will see the initial wave of storms, conditions will clear by lunchtime, followed by a partly cloudy afternoon. However, the threat isn’t over, as another round of storms is anticipated to redevelop late Thursday evening.
The pattern of on-and-off thunderstorms is expected to continue into Friday, with isolated storms particularly likely south of I-70. Temperatures during this period will range from highs in the mid-80s to high-80s and lows in the upper 60s to low 70s. Residents are advised to stay alert for weather updates and potential warnings as the system moves through the area.
