Springfield, Illinois – Hot, unstable weather is set to grip Central Illinois through early next week, with 90-degree highs and scattered thunderstorms likely to disrupt weekend plans and travel, especially east of Interstate 55.

According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, a heat advisory remains in effect today for areas southeast of an Effingham to Danville line. Storm chances increase this afternoon, particularly east of I-55, with scattered showers expected to be most widespread near Champaign, Paris, and Tuscola.

Temperatures will climb into the low 90s across much of the region, including Bloomington, Decatur, and Mattoon. Saturday brings another round of 90+ heat, with thunderstorm chances returning Sunday and Monday—both days holding a 50% likelihood. By Tuesday, rain chances remain at 60% with highs cooling slightly into the mid to upper 80s.

Residents are urged to limit outdoor activity, stay hydrated, and use air conditioning where possible. Roads may be slick during afternoon downpours, and localized flooding is possible in poorly drained areas.

This humid, unsettled pattern is expected to persist through Monday, with updated advisories likely as storm activity evolves.
