Springfield, Ill. – Central Illinois will feel like two different seasons this weekend, with early morning lows in the 40s followed by afternoon highs pushing into the upper 70s and near 80. The sharp temperature swings — nearly 40 degrees between dawn and peak warmth — will continue through early next week.
According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, temperatures overnight Friday into Saturday will dip as low as 42 in Bloomington and Galesburg, while southern towns along I-70 hold closer to 50. By midafternoon Saturday, much of the region rebounds into the mid-70s under mostly sunny skies.
Sunday morning again brings crisp air, with lows in the mid-40s before highs climb back to the low 70s. Residents may want jackets for early errands or youth sports, but afternoons will feel more like late summer.
By Monday and Tuesday, the warming trend strengthens, with highs reaching the upper 70s to low 80s. Conditions remain dry and favorable for weekend events, farm work, and road travel across the state.
