CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Central Illinois will wake up to slick, snow-covered roads Monday morning as a quick-moving winter system sweeps through the region before daybreak. The National Weather Service in Lincoln has issued a Winter Weather Advisory from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. CST Monday for Champaign, Vermilion, and Edgar Counties, including Champaign, Urbana, Danville, and Paris.

Forecasters expect 2 to 3 inches of snow, with wind gusts up to 35 mph reducing visibility and creating blowing snow at times. The heaviest snow is likely to fall between 3 a.m. and 7 a.m., right as many commuters hit the roads.

Officials warn that bridges, overpasses, and untreated roads will become slick and icy, especially across Interstate 57, I-74, and U.S. 150. Drivers are urged to slow down and allow extra time for travel during the Monday morning commute.

Though the snow will end by midmorning, strong northwest winds will keep wind chills in the 20s for much of the day. Sunshine will return later Monday afternoon, helping to melt some of the snow accumulation.

Residents should also use caution when walking outdoors, as sidewalks and driveways may become icy early.
