Springfield, Ill. – Central Illinois is set for a summerlike warm-up, with mostly sunny skies and highs nearing 90 degrees by Monday — but storms could quickly follow by Tuesday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, isolated showers are possible Friday afternoon in northeastern counties and again Saturday in the west. However, the weekend overall will stay dry across most of the region, with daytime highs ranging from 74°F to 85°F and crisp overnight lows in the 50s. The real heat begins Monday, when temperatures are expected to surge into the low 90s across Springfield, Decatur, and Bloomington.

Sunday and Monday will feel like classic early summer: sunny skies, climbing temps, and low humidity. That changes Tuesday. A 20% chance of storms creeps in by the afternoon, with a much higher 70% chance of rain and possible thunderstorms arriving Tuesday night.

If you’re planning outdoor activities or travel early next week, keep an eye on updated forecasts. Rain could impact evening commutes and overnight conditions across I-55, I-72, and surrounding routes.

The storm threat is expected to linger into Wednesday morning. Check back for updated alerts as we head into the new workweek.
