Springfield, IL – A wave of warm, windy, and stormy weather is moving through Central Illinois, bringing scattered thunderstorms and gusty winds through Sunday night.

According to the US National Weather Service Central Illinois, conditions will remain active starting Thursday night with isolated to scattered thunderstorms. On Friday, temperatures are expected to reach the upper 70s to near 80 degrees, accompanied by strong southwest wind gusts up to 45 mph.

Saturday will bring a greater likelihood of showers and storms, particularly late in the day, with highs in the mid-60s to low 70s. Breezy south winds will continue, raising concerns for sudden downpours and lightning.

By Sunday, the chance for severe weather increases, especially southeast of the Illinois River. Forecasters warn that storms could become strong Sunday afternoon with the potential for damaging winds and localized flooding.

Cooler, drier air will move in by Monday, dropping temperatures into the upper 40s and low 50s, along with breezy northwest winds. Residents are advised to secure outdoor items, monitor local forecasts, and prepare for sudden changes in conditions throughout the weekend.
