Peoria, IL– Drivers in Peoria should prepare for slick roads, low visibility, and blowing snow as a strong winter storm brings 6 to 10 inches of accumulation to the region tonight through early Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service, snowfall will begin late Friday night and ramp up significantly by midday Saturday. The heaviest snow is expected between 6 p.m. Saturday and midnight, when rates may exceed 1 inch per hour. Southeast winds gusting up to 30 mph will create blowing and drifting conditions on local roads and highways.

Highway 150 and I-74 through Peoria could become difficult to navigate during peak storm hours, especially in open areas where visibility may rapidly deteriorate. Secondary roads and elevated bridges will be particularly hazardous.

Residents are urged to avoid travel during peak snow hours, keep vehicles winter-ready, and monitor local alerts for updates. Plows may struggle to keep up during periods of intense snowfall Saturday evening.

Conditions will gradually improve by Sunday morning, but lingering slick spots are likely into Monday.
