Lincoln, Illinois – Mild temperatures will continue across central Illinois into the weekend, with periods of fog expected and a return to more typical late-December weather next week.
According to the National Weather Service in Central Illinois, dense fog early Thursday morning is expected to lift, but another round of fog is likely to develop again tonight, potentially reducing visibility for overnight and early morning travelers.
Temperatures across the region are forecast to remain well above normal through the weekend, with daytime highs generally ranging from the upper 40s to upper 60s, depending on location. Cities including Springfield, Champaign-Urbana, Peoria, Bloomington, Decatur, and Jacksonville are expected to see continued mild conditions.
The National Weather Service notes that rain and a few thunderstorms are possible late in the weekend, as a strong cold front approaches the region. Behind the front, temperatures are expected to trend much cooler, returning to values more typical of late December early next week.
Residents are urged to use caution while driving in fog, especially during nighttime and early morning hours, and to remain aware of changing conditions as the colder air arrives.
