Bloomington, IL – A Winter Storm Warning begins at midnight tonight for McLean, De Witt and Macon counties, where heavy snow is expected to impact travel from late Friday into early Sunday. The National Weather Service reports that more than 6 inches of snow is likely across communities including Bloomington, Normal, Decatur and Clinton.

According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, snow will move in after midnight and intensify early Saturday, creating hazardous travel across central Illinois. Forecasters warn that visibility may drop quickly during heavier bursts of snow, especially along major roadways such as I-55, I-74, US-51 and IL-10.

The warning remains in effect until 6 a.m. Sunday, covering the entire weekend travel period. The NWS says road conditions will deteriorate early Saturday and remain snow-covered and slick as temperatures stay below freezing.

Residents in Bloomington–Normal, Decatur, Clinton and surrounding communities are urged to delay non-essential travel and prepare for rapidly changing conditions. Drivers who must be on the road should expect slowdowns and give extra space between vehicles to avoid sudden braking on icy surfaces.
