Lincoln, IL – Central Illinois was blanketed by heavy snow Saturday, November 29, as a powerful early-season winter storm dropped between 4 and 9 inches across the region—setting new daily snowfall records in multiple cities. The National Weather Service in Lincoln confirmed that official records were broken in Peoria (5.2”), Springfield (8.9”), and Lincoln (7.8”).
According to preliminary reports, the heaviest accumulations stretched from Quincy to Springfield, where totals between 8 and 9 inches were common. Farther north, Peoria picked up just over 5 inches, while Bloomington recorded around 4.5 inches. In eastern Illinois, Paris measured 4.8 inches, and Mattoon saw just over 6 inches.
Snow began early Saturday morning and persisted through the afternoon, reducing visibility and making travel difficult on Interstates 55, 57, and 72. Crews worked throughout the evening to clear roadways, but slick and slushy conditions were reported into Sunday morning.
The storm marked one of the earliest and most widespread November snowfalls in recent years for central Illinois. Forecasters say colder air will linger through midweek, keeping highs below freezing before a gradual warm-up later in the week.
