Lincoln, IL – Light snow is set to return to Central Illinois Saturday night into Sunday, marking the region’s next winter system as colder air remains in place.

According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, snow will overspread the area from northwest to southeast late Saturday night and gradually taper off from the west Sunday morning. Accumulations are expected to be highest north of Interstate 72, including areas near Peoria, Bloomington, and Galesburg, where up to an inch or more of snow is possible.

Forecasters note a 70–80% chance for at least 1 inch of snow in northern parts of the region, while locations south of I-70 may see a mix of rain and snow as temperatures hover near freezing. Travel impacts could develop overnight Saturday and during the early part of Sunday, especially on untreated roads and bridges.

This system will be followed by continued cold conditions into early next week, reinforcing a winter-like pattern across much of Illinois. Residents are urged to monitor updated forecasts and allow extra travel time if heading out Sunday morning.
