Peoria, IL – A 15-year-old boy was shot early Monday morning in Peoria following reports of gunfire detected by the city’s ShotSpotter system.

According to the Peoria Police Department, officers responded around 2:13 a.m. to a ShotSpotter alert indicating 10 rounds were fired in the 2900 block of N. University Avenue. While en route, they were informed of a teenage gunshot victim found in the 1500 block of W. Margaret Avenue. The boy had suffered a gunshot wound to the buttocks and was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said members of the department’s Criminal Investigations Division (CID), Crime Scene Unit (CSU), and Patrol Unit were dispatched to investigate the scene. As of Monday, no suspect information had been released, and the investigation remains ongoing.
