Central Illinois – The US National Weather Service Central Illinois has issued a severe storm alert for Saturday afternoon. Scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop along a front and move east across central Illinois from late afternoon into the evening.

According to the National Weather Service, some of these storms could be strong to severe, bringing winds and hail as the main threats. Lightning and heavy rainfall are also anticipated, adding to the potential hazards.

The highest risk is localized, with isolated severe storms possible. Thunderstorms are expected to occur between 4 PM and 10 PM, with a 50% chance of scattered storms moving eastward. Although a few storms may briefly reach severe levels, the likelihood is relatively low at 5%.

Residents are advised to stay weather-aware and have multiple ways to receive warnings. Precautions include seeking indoor shelter and staying informed about the evolving weather situation. The threat levels for hail, wind, tornadoes, and flooding remain minimal, but the community is urged to remain vigilant.
