Springfield, Illinois – Central Illinois will see frequent rounds of showers and thunderstorms through Friday, with downpours most likely during the afternoon and evening hours. Drivers and commuters should be prepared for wet roads and possible lightning delays, especially on Thursday and Friday.

According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, precipitation chances range from 60% to 75% across cities like Danville, Decatur, and Mattoon Thursday morning through Friday evening. Areas northwest of I-55 — including Bloomington and Galesburg — may experience brief dry windows, particularly on Thursday.

Rain chances begin to taper off late Friday into Saturday. Cities such as Lawrenceville and Effingham, which could see storms into Friday evening, are expected to dry out by early Saturday. Temperatures will remain seasonable, hovering between 77°F and 82°F, with humidity gradually decreasing by the weekend.

Travelers should allow extra time during peak rain hours, avoid flooded roads, and keep mobile devices charged in case of isolated outages. Outdoor plans are best saved for Saturday or Sunday.

While no severe weather is forecast at this time, more updates are expected if storm strength increases. Rain chances drop significantly by Saturday morning.
