Springfield, Illinois – Central Illinois faces a soggy stretch this week as rounds of showers and thunderstorms bring a risk of more than an inch of rain through Thursday night, raising concerns for localized flooding and travel disruptions.

According to the U.S. National Weather Service Central Illinois, rain chances will linger across much of the region, though areas near and north of I-74, including Bloomington and Peoria, should see dry periods Tuesday and Tuesday night. South of I-74, rain will be more frequent, especially during the mornings. Additional storms are expected Wednesday and Thursday, with rain chances peaking at 60% to 70%.

Cities such as Springfield, Decatur, and Mattoon should prepare for off-and-on storms impacting commutes and outdoor activities. Motorists are urged to drive cautiously on slick roads, while residents should secure outdoor items and have flashlights and charging banks ready in case of isolated power outages. Areas already saturated could see rapid runoff during heavier downpours.

The unsettled weather pattern is forecast to continue into Friday with reduced but lingering shower chances. Additional advisories could be issued as rainfall totals climb, so residents are encouraged to monitor local alerts closely throughout the week.
