Lincoln, IL – Central Illinois residents should prepare for a weekend of hot and humid conditions, with temperatures expected to reach the low to mid-90s and heat indices peaking near 100 degrees. The US National Weather Service Central Illinois has issued a forecast indicating that the heat wave will continue through Monday, with only a few spotty showers or storms expected in the afternoons and evenings.

According to the National Weather Service, a weak cold front will move across the region late Saturday evening and overnight, bringing scattered showers and thunderstorms to portions of central Illinois. Some of these storms could be severe, particularly in areas north of the Illinois River Valley. The main hazards include damaging wind gusts, large hail, lightning, and locally heavy rainfall.

Residents are advised to stay updated with the latest forecasts as the risk area and timing may change. Saturday night will see the highest chance of storms, with temperatures dropping to the low 70s. Sunday and Monday are expected to remain hot, with temperatures in the high 80s to low 90s, before cooling down significantly to the mid-60s overnight.

The National Weather Service recommends staying hydrated, avoiding strenuous outdoor activities during peak heat hours, and being prepared for possible severe weather conditions.
