Springfield, Illinois – Summer heat is surging back across Central Illinois, with temperatures rising into the low 90s by Friday and Saturday, while most areas remain dry under partly sunny skies.
According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, highs will climb from the mid-80s Wednesday into the low to mid-90s by Saturday. A low chance of rain (15%) exists late Saturday, mainly for locations north of Interstate 72. Winds will stay light but steady between 5 and 15 mph throughout the week.
The warming trend impacts areas from Decatur to Bloomington, with Springfield expected to hit 91°F on Friday. Champaign could reach 94°F by Saturday afternoon. Despite the heat, humidity will be lower than in previous weeks, helping conditions feel slightly less oppressive.
Drivers and outdoor workers should stay hydrated and limit exposure during peak afternoon hours. While the rain chances remain minimal, areas north of I-72—including Lincoln and Danville—may see brief showers late Saturday.
The heat is expected to hold through early next week, though no major storms are in sight. Another update is expected from NWS Lincoln by Friday morning.
