According to the US National Weather Service Central Illinois, the heat index could reach up to 105 degrees, creating a 30-50% chance of heat-related illnesses. The potential for cloudiness and storms north of I-72 adds uncertainty to the forecast. Nevertheless, relief is on the horizon as cooler, less humid weather is expected on Wednesday.
Today’s temperatures are expected to remain in the 90s, with thunderstorms predicted for tonight. The likelihood of showers and thunderstorms will increase through the evening, bringing some respite from the heat. The storms are expected to move from south to north, gradually diminishing into Wednesday.
Tonight’s temperatures will drop to 67-70 degrees, with a high probability of storms. By Wednesday, the region will experience slightly cooler temperatures, ranging from 83-85 degrees, with a 30% chance of showers. Nighttime temperatures will further decrease to 60-62 degrees.
Looking ahead, Thursday promises more comfortable weather with temperatures between 82-84 degrees and clear skies. Residents should remain cautious during the heat advisory but can anticipate more favorable conditions by midweek.
