Springfield, IL – Dry and mild conditions will start the week across central Illinois, but a storm system passing to the south is expected to bring rain Tuesday through Wednesday night, according to the National Weather Service in Lincoln.
Forecasters say rainfall totals remain uncertain, though moderate rain is most likely south of Interstate 74, with only light rain north of the corridor. The highest rain chances—between 60–80%—are expected Tuesday night into Wednesday.
Temperatures will be near normal today, with highs in the lower to mid-60s, then turning cooler midweek as highs fall into the mid to upper 50s Tuesday through Friday. Overnight lows will dip from the upper 40s early in the week into the upper 30s by Thursday night.
By Friday, conditions are expected to improve with partly sunny skies and dry weather returning to the region.
Drivers should prepare for wet road conditions during the Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning commutes.
