Lincoln, IL – The National Weather Service in Central Illinois is warning of wintry weather returning late Saturday night into Sunday, bringing a mix of snow, freezing rain, and drizzle that could make roads slick across parts of the region.

The advisory area includes locations along and north of a Macomb-to-Mattoon line, where a light glaze of ice and minor snow accumulations under 2 inches are possible. Precipitation will begin overnight and continue through midday Sunday, gradually tapering off by the afternoon.

The highest chance for ice accumulation (around 0.01 inch or greater) extends from Bloomington to Danville, with freezing drizzle and light snow farther north near Peoria and Galesburg. South of that line, mostly rain or dry conditions are expected.

Forecasters caution that untreated roads, sidewalks, and elevated surfaces may become slippery, especially during the Sunday morning commute. Temperatures are expected to warm slightly by Monday and rise above freezing on Tuesday, turning precipitation back to rain.

Motorists should reduce speed, allow extra travel time, and stay alert for changing road conditions overnight.
