Springfield, IL – Central Illinois residents can expect one more stretch of unseasonably warm weather before a cold front arrives early this week, bringing showers, thunderstorms, and more seasonable October temperatures.

According to the US National Weather Service Central Illinois, highs will stay in the mid-80s through Monday before falling sharply Tuesday as cooler air moves in. The approaching cold front will trigger showers and isolated thunderstorms Monday night, particularly along and south of Interstate 70.

Forecasters say the rain won’t be a drought-buster, but many areas could see between 0.5 and 1 inch, with the highest rainfall chances Monday evening into early Tuesday. Temperatures are expected to drop into the low 70s Tuesday and Wednesday, marking the first extended stretch of fall-like weather this month.

By midweek, skies should clear as drier air settles in, offering a more typical early October pattern. Lows will dip into the 50s across much of the region by Thursday morning.

Residents planning outdoor work or travel should prepare for changing weather conditions Monday night and early Tuesday, especially in southern and eastern Illinois.
