Lincoln, Illinois – Dense fog with limited visibility to just one-quarter of a mile is creating hazardous conditions across southeast Illinois this morning. The National Weather Service has issued a Dense Fog Advisory for the region, warning drivers to slow down and use low beam headlights as they navigate through the thick fog.

According to the National Weather Service, the advisory is in effect until 9 a.m. this morning, with conditions expected to gradually improve later in the morning. The fog is most concentrated in southeast Illinois, although patchy dense fog could affect other parts of central Illinois as well.

Visibility is expected to be severely reduced, making it difficult to spot nearby vehicles or road hazards. The Illinois Department of Transportation advises that drivers increase their following distance to provide more time to react if sudden stops or slowdowns occur. The dense fog will make travel particularly treacherous on less-traveled roads, but major highways, such as I-55 and I-72, may also experience reduced visibility.

As the fog begins to dissipate later this morning, conditions are expected to improve. However, motorists should remain cautious, and additional advisories may follow if conditions worsen again.
