Champaign, IL – A dangerous Arctic blast will grip central Illinois this week, bringing subzero wind chills and hazardous travel conditions. Residents should prepare for extreme cold and potential snowfall.
According to the National Weather Service, wind chills between -10 and -20 degrees will persist from Monday through Friday. Bitterly cold air will make outdoor exposure dangerous, with frostbite possible in minutes. Snow chances increase Tuesday night and Wednesday, with light accumulation expected.
Monday’s high will reach only 15°F, with winds making it feel much colder. Overnight lows will drop near zero, with Tuesday bringing similar conditions. Wednesday may see snow showers, followed by a brief warm-up Thursday, with highs in the low 20s.
Drivers should use caution, as untreated roads may become slick due to freezing precipitation. Those heading out should bundle up and limit time outdoors.
