Peoria County, IL – Two more tornadoes were confirmed in Peoria County following Monday night’s derecho, bringing the total tornado count for the event to three.
According to the US National Weather Service Central Illinois, the additional tornadoes were rated EF-0 and occurred in Monica-Princeville and Alta. The Monica-Princeville tornado touched down around 8:15 PM CDT, lasting until 8:19 PM. It had peak winds of 80 mph, a path length of 4.25 miles, and a maximum width of 80 yards. This tornado caused damage to roofs and trees and dissipated south of Princeville.
The Alta tornado began at 8:22 PM CDT and lasted until 8:25 PM. It had peak winds of 85 mph, a path length of 2.59 miles, and a maximum width of 100 yards. This tornado caused damage to several trees and homes in the area, especially in the Wildwood Estates neighborhood, before dissipating near Alta.
These tornadoes were part of the intense weather system that swept through the region, causing widespread damage and power outages.
